Thought of the Month
A shepherd’s life was one full of devotion and dedication involving particular skills such as possessing an intimate knowledge of his flock and a great knowledge of the surrounding area where he worked. He was strong, a leader, vigilant and passionate in his work.
As the “Good Shepherd” Jesus knows his followers and would give his very life for them. Using the acrostic “CARES” we can summarise the qualities displayed in the work of a trusted shepherd.
C | Calls us by name; Compassionate in his dealings with us; Carries us in our weakness |
A | Answers our call; Always with us; Alert to our needs |
R | Rescues us from danger; Returns us to his care; Restores us in our distress |
E | Gives Eternal life and security; Loves us with an Everlasting love; Everything is known to him |
S | Keeps us Safe from harm; Sacrifices himself for us; Seeks and saves us as those lost |
